If you looked up Tuesday morning and saw what looked like a glowing alien jellyfish floating over Orlando, you weren t imagining things. The strange sight was courtesy of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket that launched from Cape Canaveral at 6:33 a.m. on October 13, carrying more than 6,300 pounds of supplies and scientific equipment to the International Space Station. The phenomenon, known as a “space jellyfish,” happens when a rocket launches just before sunrise or after sunset. While it s still dark on the ground, sunlight catches the rocket s exhaust high in the atmosphere, creating a glowing cloud with wispy trails that look like tentacles. The spectacle was visible across Central Florida and into Georgia. So, no alien invasion. Yet.
