Hours-long standoff ends after man points shotgun at Volusia County deputy, officials say

Deputies took a Seville man into custody early Monday after sheriff’s investigators say he engaged them in a standoff.Austin Mowery, 28, is now facing a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.The Volusia Sheriff’s Office said deputies first responded to a home in Seville Sunday night for a well-being check over concern for someone’s “mental stability.”There, Mowery is accused of pointing a shotgun at a deputy through the window of the home along Lake Juanita Road, according to VSO.Several hours later, officials said Mowery surrendered around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
