Congressman Maxwell Frost Makes Surprise Appearance in Buena Vista Social Club at Dr. Phillips Center

Congressman Maxwell Frost made a surprise appearance onstage Tuesday night, joining the musicians of Buena Vista Social Club on percussion during the show s opening performance at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. Frost joined the musicians onstage at the start of Act Two, but percussion is hardly a new gig for the Orlando congressman. Before heading to Washington, Frost was a percussionist and bandleader for Seguro Que Sí, an award-winning salsa band at Osceola County School for the Arts that even performed during President Barack Obama s second inaugural parade. There s a personal connection to the show, too. Frost s mother immigrated to the United States from Cuba, where the music and story of Buena Vista Social Club are rooted. The Tony and Grammy Award-winning musical, which tells the story behind the legendary Cuban musical ensemble, is in Orlando through Sunday, October 25. Tickets and showtimes are available through the Dr. Phillips Center website.
