After nearly two years of detours, Mount Dora drivers will once again have access to Britt Road. The road reopens Friday as a two-lane roadway. Hurricane Milton washed out a large stretch of Britt Road in October 2024, triggering months of closures and traffic headaches for those who rely on the route daily.Repair work did not begin until August 2026. Along with rebuilding the road, crews also installed new drainage and completed additional safety upgrades designed to prevent future damage. The Lake County Commission approved a resolution banning trucks weighing more than 10 tons from the stretch of Britt Road between Wolf Branch Road and State Road 44.County officials said the road was not built to handle heavy truck volumes and that restricting large trucks should help preserve the newly rebuilt roadway. The ban includes exemptions for delivery vehicles, garbage trucks and agricultural vehicles.
