Medical episode leads to collision between sedan and school bus in Central Florida

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol reports that a sedan collided with a school bus on May 4, at 9:02 a.m. in Marion County. The incident took place at the intersection of US 441 and SE 176th Street. The report states that the sedan driver moved into the left turn lane after a medical emergency, causing a collision. Of the 27 students on the school bus, two, along with the driver of the sedan, were taken to a nearby hospital for medical care.After the impact, both vehicles moved onto the grass shoulder, south of the crash location. The school bus had 27 students on board at the time of the crash.The 21-year-old male sedan driver from Ocala sustained minor injuries in the crash while wearing a seat belt. The school bus was driven by a 66-year-old female, also from Ocala. She reported no injuries from the collision and was wearing a seat belt. Orlando Magic fire head coach Jamahl Mosley

ORLANDO, Fla. — Jamahl Mosley has been dismissed as head coach of the Orlando Magic. President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced the decision today.Mosley’s dismissal follows five seasons with the Magic, during which the team compiled a regular-season record of 189-221 (.461). The team advanced to the playoffs three times under his leadership.Jeff Weltman, President of Basketball Operations for the Orlando Magic, expressed gratitude for Mosley’s contributions. “We’re grateful to Jamahl (Mosley) for all he’s done for the Orlando Magic,” Weltman said. “We appreciate his leadership and the positive contributions he made as head coach. While this was a difficult decision, we feel it’s time for a new voice and fresh perspective. We wish Jamahl and his family nothing but the best.” Mosley became the 15th head coach in Orlando Magic history on July 11, 2021. Under his tenure, the team made playoff appearances in the 2023-24, 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. In the most recent season, Orlando finished with a 45-37 (.549) record. Driver killed in Melbourne motorcycle accident, police say

MELBOURNE, Fla. — On May 3, the Melbourne Police Department received a 911 call reporting a vehicle crash near Montreal Ave and Highland Ave. Upon arrival, it was found that a black motorcycle had left the roadway, hitting an aluminum fence, a concrete light pole, and a concrete fence post. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. Brevard County Fire Rescue teams responded and transported the driver to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, he died from his injuries there and was pronounced deceased. Police identify the driver as 24-year-old Omar Benkhye from Palm Bay. As a result of the crash, all lanes of traffic were closed for several hours. Law enforcement confirms that this case is still active.Click here to download our free news, weather and smart TV apps.
